As July 4th is a Sunday this year the building is closed on Monday July 5. No class. Enjoy the holiday. The new beginner series officially begins on Thursday July 22 and runs through Thursday August 19. After the 4rth, I will put up a new notice to that effect. During that month, we will focus our attention on new beginners and only do beginning techniques and ukemi for four weeks. After that, well, you never know…

Thank you,

Dear all,

1. There will be no class on Monday May 31–Memorial Day.

2. Our next beginner series begins on July 22 and goes through August 19. If there is someone who wants to start Aikido, please ask him or her to wait until that month to begin. Henceforth, we will limit the introduction of new people to three time periods:

Summer: July. Fall: September. Winter: February.

Classes during each of those three months will be devoted to introducing new people to Aikido. However, classes outside of those three months will be devoted to general training. We will no longer invite people to start training at any time of the year, at any class. Everyone has to enter through one of the three portals. This way we can ensure a more standardized beginning for new folks and a return to basics at regular intervals for everyone while providing more time for advanced training during the year. More details to follow in class.

Thank you,

Jonathan Sensei

Thanks to everyone who participated in making our first community service project a great success! We spent three hours (twice as much as originally advertised) on the first warmest day of the season participating in Green Up Vermont as a dojo. It was fun! Special thanks to Holly, Adam, and John for moving us around with the three-car system. And, a big, gigantic, enormous thanks goes to sweet John for providing food and drinks, gloves, trash spears, and an alternate route in Weybridge for us to cover.

Here are the vital stats for our (imaginary) dojo archives:

Green Up Vermont
May 1, 2010, 2 to 5 p.m.

10 people + 1 dog

cleaned up 2.2 miles of Route 23/Weybridge Road from Drake Road to the Lemon Fair

common things found: glass and plastic bottles, aluminum cans, plastic sheets and broken bits, plywood

“best” finds: bottom shell of a vacuum cleaner, battery charger, large tail light
