Dear all,

You might want to get a cup of coffee or tea. Lots to tell you.

Many Thanks to Holly, Steven and Linda for their week day teaching this summer and to Adam and Jeff for keeping the Sunday afternoon class going. The Santa Cruz intensive was a marvelous week and we bring back lots of inspired teaching from Anno Sensei and armloads of warm fuzzies from our Seattle mother dojo. We also got a marvelous lift from training with Greg and Yuki. Dan Sensei taught us the Fire Kata so we, officially, are now able to work on the Mirror, Water, Eagle and Fire katas of Tom Read Sensei.

Beginner Series: The next beginner series starts on Monday September 26 and runs for one month. In February 2012, we will do another beginner series for one month. Thus, the next dues payment is due on September 26. I am asking everyone to pay dues of $25 month. To limit the number of times we sign forms, let’s pay dues three times a year: September (fall), February (winter), June (summer). At each of these times, dues will be $100. That comes to $300/year divided by 12 months = $25/month. If paying $100 at one time is really challenging, simply pay $50 over two months or on a schedule that works for you–as always, payable to the town of Middlebury.

Spring 2012 Kimberly and Dan Sensei visits and Shodan Demonstrations: During the weekend of April 27-29, 2012, Kimberly and Dan Sensei will be here to lead a special weekend seminar. The weekend will include the shodan demonstrations of Jeff Stauch and Adam Franco. The weekend will also include a session in which Dan and Kimberly Sensei run me through a practice session for the event below. We will need all hands on deck. Please reserve this date now! On the Sunday afternoon of that weekend, Dan Sensei will teach us the Diamond Kata (as these are secret teachings, Sunday afternoon is for Blue Heron folks only).

August 2012 Seattle demonstration: Over the weekend of August 17-19, 2012, I will be put through a demonstration for my yondan ranking at Two Cranes Aikido in Seattle, WA. After the Santa Cruz weekend, Kimberly Richardson and Mary Heiny Sensei conferred and due to the quality of Aikido demonstrated by Blue Heron folks at the Santa Cruz Intensive, I was awarded a Sandan ranking and told to get ready to test for yondan next August. Linda and Greg, this was also due to the articles that we have published over the past two years regarding Aikido–they represent contributions to the larger practice and teaching of Aikido and Mary and Kimberly Sensei wanted to recognize those contributions as well. If at all possble, it would be wonderful to have as many of us in Seattle as possible. Two Cranes folks would happily provide lodging for anyone who can make it. Also, anyone who wants to earn ranking in Aikibojitsu (shodan requires Fire, Diamond, Eagle and Mirror) will also have an opportunity to do so. Oh, yes, it is going to be an active year!

Well, there you go. I hope everyone is ready for a fun and active year of training. If we ever wonder and why we are doing all this Aikido, simply re-read that sentence from our dojo web site, below the photo, written by Mary Heiny Sensei. May we all manifest such intention.

Many thanks to everyone for your misogi in all its layered meanings.

Sincerely,

Jonathan
